Hey R.M.,
I'm surprised you didn't post about the Internal Affairs article in the Merc.(The Valley, Sunday, Sept. 16). Lew Wolff leaving the name of the team (i.e San Jose, Silicon Valley) open for "financial purposes?" What the heck does that mean? My theory is if San Jose gets Lew Wolff's land in Edenvale rezoned ($$$) for soccer stadium, then the A's officially become SAN JOSE of Fremont.

Japanese corporate naming coming to the US? The Google A's of Fremont?

I think it means what we've all been speculating since ... um... forever.

I don't think it has to do with a "deal" between SJ and Wolff. I think its basically just the same discussion we've had on this blog, and on everywhere else, about it.

Fremont wants the City in the name in some aspect, either as the Fremont Athletics, or the XXXXX Athletics of Fremont. That, or it might end up as XXXX Athletics, playing at Cisco Field at Fremont.

Most likely, San Jose or Silicon Valley will be the first part of the team name, for the same reason the Angels chose Los Angels. Several other teams say they are the more recognizable city rather than the small one next to it (hell, even our very own Sacramento Rivercats do so).

Look at the L.A. Angels of Anaheim for a clue.

Bay Area A's at Fremont
San Jose A's at Fremont
Silicon Valley A's at Fremont
