Still, just from looking at the inside on television, the one thing that stands out as a giant negative for me is the roof, with those catwalks that can interfere with the flight of the balls hit hard towards that area. It's similar to the Metrodome, where the roof color and the hanging speakers can affect the game.

Right now, the Rays are between a rock and a hard place. Sure, they would like a new facility but no one is going to pay for it. However, staying at the Trop means they have to always work hard to get crowds to come out for the ballgame. It's not impossible to do but it can test your patience very quickly.

Meanwhile, over at the other side of the state: Populous just released a video of the ballpark that's going to rise over there:

http://www.miamiherald.com/video/index.html?media_id=5140910Transicnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11432525.post-9057854431736647232009-07-17T17:03:52.276-07:002009-07-17T17:03:52.276-07:00I've been to Tropicana Field, and, IMO, nothin...I've been to Tropicana Field, and, IMO, nothing can salvage that amazingly ugly monstrosity. Over the years, I attended various events in some of the multi-purpose stadiums. None was remotely as bad as Tropicana Field. It just needs to go away.

I also attended a game at Nationals Field last month and was underwhelmed. The taxpayers of D.C. (one wonders how much of the burden goes to us) were hosed. Not only is the stadium itself unimpressive, it's in a poverty belt and despite all of the redevelopment promises, nothing has been done to improve the area. One doubts whether that will ever be done. The demographics in that part of D.C. militate against it.

Renovating the Coliseum or building a new stadium in the parking lot will result in business-as-usual. A sterile facility stuck out in the middle of nowhere with none of the bars, restaurants and overall action one sees in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Denver. Yeah, there is a BART station. Just like Nationals Stadium, where the only saving grace is it's easy to get there and then haul ass out of there afterwards.oldbluenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11432525.post-69930594800694057032009-07-16T21:42:24.028-07:002009-07-16T21:42:24.028-07:00The 18" seat pitch has to be the bleacher/par...The 18" seat pitch has to be the bleacher/party deck section above left field (formerly known as The Beach.)

Nothing worth saving at the Trop if that's the price. If they decide to go through with a new stadium situation, and the options are building a new stadium or spending a slightly less fortune on renovation the existing stadium, and the renovation would still leave you with a crappy stadium, I say just build a new one.Toothballhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06739632424964102480noreply@blogger.com
